Homegrown Security Threats
With the increase in the threat levels around the world and domestically, business owners need to understand the risk potential for their business due to homegrown security threats.
Terrorism Alert
With the great efforts of our intelligence agencies and military, as well as our foreign allies, the world is often constantly watching for the next threat, regardless of who is it directed at. However, the threat that is hardest to detect is the homegrown threat.
Looking at the recent cases where small organized groups of individuals committed terror attacks in places like France, Australia, Canada, and Denmark it should be well known that these type of attacks are not always against a government. In fact, in many of the cases the attacks were carried out at a private business.
Here in the United States over the last couple of decades, there have been numerous small attacks as well as the September 11, 2001 attacks. Although some of the attacks are classified as “workplace violence,” the stated cause for such attacks has been attributed to the global terrorism by some of the involved parties.
That being the case, citizens and businesses need to raise their security awareness and understand how the risks of a homegrown act of terror can affect them.
The best manner, in which businesses can fully comprehend their potential for security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities, is to determine what security measures are appropriate for each business by conducting a security risk assessment that is specific to their business type, location, and security risk exposure.
